Questo corso esamina il comportamento comunicativo umano, sia verbale che non verbale, da una prospettiva psicologica e sperimentale.
Per consentire misurazioni sperimentali e analisi psicologiche c'è una prima parte che è un'introduzione alle caratteristiche fisiche di un segnale audio / video.
L'analisi del discorso, dello sguardo, dei gesti e delle emozioni è considerata. Sono riportati diversi esempi di ricerca psicologica sperimentale. Saranno inoltre discussi i fondamenti della teoria dell'informazione
Vengono introdotti strumenti software multimediali per facilitare l'analisi dei dati.
Si presume che alla fine del corso lo studente abbia acquisito la capacità di definire e impostare esperimenti e misurazioni di eventi psicologici utilizzando strumenti software multimediali e modelli matematici.

Lezioni frontali

La presenza al corso è richiesta per facilitare le prove di verifica. La verifica avverrà attraverso due fasi.
FASE I: Lo studentediscute un articolo a scelta. Gli articoli sono consegnati dal professore all’inizio del corso e sono disponibili in rete. Ogni anno il folder viene aggiornato con nuovo materiale. Lo studente, una volta scelto l’articolo dovrà assicurarsi che non sia già stato scelto. A tale scopo, sempre in rete verrà pubblicata la lista degli articoli scelti che non si possono più scegliere. Lo studente avrà cura di verificare che l’articolo scelto non appare nella lista. Una volta scelto l’articolo lo studente dovrà comunicare al professore il titolo. Ogni articolo può essere discusso da un massimo tre studenti.
Per la FASE I lo studente deve discutere l’articolo attraverso una presentazione PPT. La discussione dell’articolo non deve superare 30 minuti per 3 studenti, 20 minuti per 2 o un solo studente. Il voto è assegnato al gruppo, ed è mediato sul voto ottenuto da ciascun componente del gruppo.
FASE II: La FASE II consiste nel realizzare un progetto di ricerca. Gli studenti che compongono il gruppo possono anche non essere le stesse persone che hanno costituito il gruppo nella FASE I. Per il progetto lo studente deve produrre:
a) una presentazione PPT
b) una relazione in WORD
c) Una cartella digitale contenente tutti i dati utilizzati nel progetto,
La discussione del progetto e della Fase I si farà in date stabilite in accordo con gli studenti durante l’anno accademico. Le tempistiche della presentazione, la valutazione e l’assegnamento del punteggio seguono le stesse regole della FASE I.
Per il superamento delle due fasi ci saranno prove intermedie durante tutto l’anno accademico in cui gli studenti si incontreranno col professore per verificare la loro preparazione ai due test finale.

This course examines human communicative behaviour, both verbal and nonverbal, from a psychological and experimental perspective.
To allow experimental measurements and psychological analysis there is a first part which is an introduction to the physical features of an audio/video signal.
The analysis of speech, gaze, gestures and emotions is considered. Several examples of experimental psychological research are reported. Fundamentals of Information Theory will be also discussed
Multimedia software tools are introduced to facilitate data analysis.
It is assumed that at the end of the course the student gained the ability to define and set-up experiments and measurements of psychological events using multimedia software tools and mathematical models.

Frontal Lectures

The course requires students to actively participate and be present at the lectures. Two final tests are foreseen:
Test I (research discussion): The discussion of a research work on a topic of the course through a PPT presentation made by a team of maximum three students. To this aim students must select a research paper made available through the material provided by the teacher. The research paper must not be among those selected by other students or selected in the previous years. Students are required to study the research presented in the selected paper and discuss it with the teacher through a PPT presentation.
Test II (Project implementation). The implementation of an experimental project involving the definition of a research question, the definition of an experimental set up for data collection, the statistical analysis of the data and the discussion of the results. This require to produce a paperwork in WORD that describe the details of the project and a PPT presentation for the discussion of the project. In addition, all the data and materials concerning the implemented projects (stimuli, questionnaires, consent forms, etc) must be presented at the project as proof either in analogic and/or digital form.
Intermediate consultations with the teacher are foreseen in order to pass TEST I and TEST II. To this aims, each student’s team is required (before the TEST I and TEST II) to take an appointment with the teacher in order to define the details of their course work.
For the passing of the two tests, students are required to pass intermediate tests that will be given during the whole academic year. During these tests students will meet with the professor to verify their preparation for the two final tests.
The discussion of the project will take place on dates established by the professor in agreement with the students during the academic year. The timing of the presentation, the evaluation and the assignment of the score follow the same rules of the TEST 1
