Prerequisiti | Psicologia Generale e Psicometria |

Teaching language | The lessons will take place in Italian |
Contents | The aim of the course is a clear understanding of how experimental psychologists think and how they do their work, using a variety of methods in their attempts to understand psychological phenomena. Even if the course’s main focus is on the psychological methods (experimental, quasi-experimental, correlational, observational, and survey), the research ethics are discussed considering that a researcher must always be aware of the ethical dimension of research. Also, different types of validity and relative threats are shown, as well as several types of control strategies used in the research. For each point, exercises and/or activities are requested to be performed individually or in small groups of students. |

Course objectives | At the end of the course the student must know and has the ability to understand the main methods of investigation of the psychological sciences. The laboratory aims to provide the basic knowledge and skills to perform research in the psychological field. This knowledge and understanding can be applied both to conceive and support arguments and to solve problems in the psychological sciences, as well as to use advanced textbooks and to read scientific articles and national and international debates. One more objective of the laboratory is to develop a critical thinking in the students and this type of thinking is useful to reflect about psychological researches, develop a useful type of thinking in clinical field and to develop research project. |
Prerequisites | General Psychology and Psychometrics |
Teaching methods | 64 hours (8cfu) of laboratories (each lesson of 3 hours) characterized on the one hand by an explanation of the topic and on the other by exercises and/or activities to be carried out individually or in small groups. In order to take the exam, the student must be present for 75% of the lesson hours (at least 48 hours of presence), and therefore attendance is taken on each day. Since the laboratory can also be followed on teams, the presence on teams is equivalent to a classroom presence. On Wednesday 10, Wednesday 17 and Wednesday 24 May from 11-14 (in addition to the hours already scheduled from 8 to 11) activities will be organized in which students will have to put into practice what they acquired during the laboratory. On those days and for those hours, students are invited to be present in the classroom to carry out these practical activities. |
Evaluation methods | Exam for Erasmus/foreign students: the exam is entirely in oral mode for foreign students. In this case, 5 questions are proposed for which the relevance of the answer is assessed, the quality of the organization of the speech and the exposure, the use of the specialized lexicon and the ability to create critical links between the various teaching topics. The oral test in this case aims to ascertain the ability to describe the main methods of investigation in psychology, to ascertain the ability to understand psychological methodologies both to devise and support arguments and to solve problems in the psychological field and to ascertain the learning of knowledge on the main survey methodologies to be used in different psychological fields. The test is evaluated in thirtieths and the test is considered to have been passed with a minimum grade of 18/30. If it is requested, the oral exam can take place in English or in Spanish. |
Other information | To present the various theoretical aspects, scientific articles are presented and discussed as examples; in the same way, classroom activities are carried out to be carried out in small groups relating to all aspects of research in psychology (from the analytical reading of scientific articles to the planning of an experimental study). |
