    Metodologie didattiche

    Contents

A specific test is presented for the measurement of a specific memory system. Students are invited to develop a research hypothesis starting from the analysis of the literature and to design a specific study to test the hypothesis, using the presented tool. Next, students must collect data by applying a specific and process the data and then present the entire project to the teacher.

    Textbook and course materials

    Reference:
Material that is provided during the workshop and can be downloaded from the Teacher's Didactic Material (http://www.psicologia.unina2.it/dipartimento/docenti?MATRICOLA=059489).
Specifically, the following pdf files must be obtained from the laboratory:
    Kamat et al., 2014;
    Woods et al., 2008.

    Course objectives

At the end of the laboratory experience, the student must be able to plan a research in memory psychology, know how to administer a specific assessment test of a memory system and know how to communicate these skills through computer aids. The laboratory aims to provide tools to improve the ability to integrate knowledge and manage complexity and to draw its own conclusions also on the basis of limited information. Furthermore, the laboratory is aimed at a training course in which the student will be able to improve communication skills in order to clearly and unambiguously present his / her conclusions as well as the knowledge and the rationale underlying them to specialists and non-specialist interlocutors.

    Prerequisites

    Reaserch Methodology and Psychometrics

    Teaching methods

16 hours (2 credits, 5 meetings) of laboratory lessons organized as follows: in the first lesson the tool to be used in their research is presented theoretically and practically, while in the remaining workshop lessons each student (autonomously or in small groups) must work on his own research project supervised by the teacher.
Attendance is compulsory and the student must have 80% attendance (1 out of 5 meetings is allowed) in order to access the eligibility exam. The frequency is recorded using a presence register (the student must sign the entry and exit from the laboratory lesson).

    Evaluation methods

    Exam:
The suitability to the laboratory is certified through an oral test (carried out in the teacher's study) which consists of a power point presentation (maximum 10 slides) of his own research individually and the drafting of an abstract of the research (maximum 500 words).
The oral test aims to ascertain the ability to describe a research in memory psychology and to be able to communicate clearly (orally and in writing) and without ambiguity the various theoretical and practical phases of a research.
The power point and the abstract must be sent by mail to the teacher at least 5 days before the exam date.

    Other information

The students are invited to bring a laptop in all laboratory lessons.
The laboratory lessons are organized in such a way that the student has enough time to collect the data and analyze them with the supervision of the teacher.

Memory is generally defined as the ability to retain (and retrieve) information over time. Considering the different memory systems and the tools to study it, the goal of the laboratory is to allow the student to deal with the various procedures in person in order to study the memory. Starting from the presentation of some studies on memory in the literature, underlining the methods used to study memory, the students attending the laboratory are asked to design and carry out a study on long-term memory, working memory or perspective memory. It follows that to allow the realization of the research, the laboratory days (compulsory attendance, maximum 1 absence on 5 meetings) do not have a weekly schedule but are deferred in the period March-May. The research can be carried out individually or in groups (the number of which will depend on the number of students attending the workshop). The study carried out is then presented by means of a power point (to be sent to the teacher accompanied by an abstract of the research of no more than 500 words), as a way to obtain the expected fitness. The evaluation is made only who has reached the necessary frequency.
